Physical and Neuropsychiatric Symptoms Appear on Pilots during Hypobaric Chamber Training

چکیده
It has been known that some neuropsychiatric symptoms also occur on healthy people who are subjected to the low pressure and oxygen level. Especially climbers and pilots experience sometimes severe symptoms. The aim of the research is determine the physical and psychiatric symptoms that the pilots have experienced during hypobaric chamber training and discuss the possible mechanisms related with them. One hundred sixty five pilots from Turkish Air Forces were included in this study. Anonymous questionnaires were used to get information on their physical and mental health history, sensorimotor and cognitive changings and perceptual and affective symptoms they experienced during and shortly after hypobaric chamber trainings. We determined several neurological symptoms, somestetic illusions, derealization symptoms and hallucinations, anxiety and affective symptoms on pilots. Determining the similar symptoms in people who exposure to hypoxia and psyhiatric patients to be considered as a finding to understand the ethiopathogenesis of the disorders. Cognitive responses to hypobaric hypoxia: implications for aviation training
The aim of this narrative review is to provide an overview on cognitive responses to hypobaric hypoxia and to show relevant implications for aviation training. A principal element of hypoxia-awareness training is the intentional evocation of hypoxia symptoms during specific training sessions within a safe and controlled environment. Repetitive training should enable pilots to learn and recogniz...
متن کاملThe effect of hypoxia on the critical flicker fusion threshold in pilots.
OBJECTIVES Human reactions to environmental changes have been the subject of numerous investigations related to pathophysiology, aviation psychology, aviation, and sports. The present study aimed at evaluating the perception of light stimulus via the Critical Flicker Fusion threshold (CFF) measurements among aviation pilots. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study was carried out under hypoxic condit...
متن کاملPhysiological equivalence of normobaric and hypobaric exposures of humans to 25,000 feet (7620 m).
INTRODUCTION Skepticism exists about whether normobaric and hypobaric hypoxic exposures are equivalent. We have evaluated if physiological differences between the two environments would translate into actual differences in hypoxia symptoms. METHODS We exposed 20 subjects to 5-min 25,000-ft (7620-m) equivalent environments in an altitude chami ber and then in a ground-level portable reduced-ox...
متن کاملEffect of High intensity interval training and hypobaric hypoxia on Body weight changes and Endurance performance in Male wistar rats following the tapering program
Introduction: Adaptation to attitude is a complementary exercise to increase athletes' fitness and physiological performance. The present study investigated the effect of high intensity interval training at the hypobaric hypoxia conditions on weight changes and endurance performance test in rats following a three-weeks tapering period. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 25 m...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Visual Analog Score (VAS) to Assess Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) in a Hypobaric Chamber
OBJECTIVE The visual analog score (VAS) is widely used in clinical medicine to evaluate the severity of subjective symptoms. There is substantial literature on the application of the VAS in medicine, especially in measuring pain, nausea, fatigue, and sleep quality. Hypobaric chambers are utilized to test and exercise the anaerobic endurance of athletes. To this end, we evaluated the degree of A...
